Penn State Lehigh Valley – Campus Expansion

Project Description

SFA is currently collaborating with Penn State Lehigh Valley to design an expansion to their campus building. The addition will feature a full-service cafeteria on the first floor, student programming space on the second floor, and a new STEM wing on the third floor.

Since their founding in 1912 as Penn State’s first Commonwealth Campus, Penn State Lehigh Valley has forged new paths of opportunity for ambitious, hard-working students. Since their founding in 1912 as Penn State’s first Commonwealth Campus, Penn State Lehigh Valley has forged new paths of opportunity for ambitious, hard-working students. In 2010, the PSU LV moved to its current location in Center Valley, allowing the campus to expand its baccalaureate offerings, accommodate increasing student enrollments, and better recruit and maintain faculty, staff, and students. Despite the increase in campus size, some areas remained lacking – including the campus dining facility and student spaces, which were extremely limited for PSU LV’s large population of commuter students.

SFA is working with PSU LV to design an expansion to the campus, which will feature a full-service cafeteria on the first floor, student programming space on the second floor, and a new STEM wing on the third floor. In addition to allowing food preparation on site, the cafeteria will also expand the capacity and offerings of PSU, allowing them to capture more revenue from commuter students leaving campus to eat meals. The second floor’s student programming spaces will include a game room, adult learner / veterans lounge, and collaborative student gathering spaces. The STEM wing on the third floor will include organic chemistry laboratories, prep rooms and equipment rooms, and STEM classrooms and offices. The expansion is currently slated for a 2021 opening.
