The 26,000-square-foot, three-story building enhances the Bryn Athyn experience by providing students with out-of-classroom spaces for socialization. Centrally located between the academic and residential campus districts, the student center provides ample spaces for student gathering among the rapidly growing student population and also specifically caters to the College’s high percentage of commuter students.

The new building includes two new classrooms, to ease the load on existing classroom facilities, added dining options, and the campus’ relocated health clinic. There are also spaces to engage and accommodate student socialization, including spaces for student government, a coffee shop, spaces for yoga and dance, a stage for small concerts, a game room, study rooms, and conference areas. Informal seating in these areas encourages comfortable discussion and relaxation.

In addition to serving students, the College also hopes to generate some additional revenue by making the Student Center available for rental by outside groups during off-hours or semester breaks. This influenced the interior design of the project, as the College specifically wanted to avoid “branding” the first floor as a collegiate space.

Our designers selected a warm honey palette, terra cotta tile floors, and a limestone fireplace to add warmth and comfort. Fabrics were primarily selected in warm greys with hints of rust / terra cotta and accents of green. To maintain the project’s budget, the designers mixed high-end studio furniture pieces with cost-effective and stylish products from other manufacturers.
